A tense situation has been reported near an army checkpoint at Vishvamadu today (18).
Soldiers manning the checkpoint at Vishvamadu had fired into the air following the unruly behaviour by a group of people, the Sri Lanka Army said.
Two persons have been taken into custody in connection with the incident, the military spokesman said.
Brigadier Nilantha Premaratne stated that a group of persons under the influence of alcohol had obstructed the duties of the military personnel on duty at the army checkpoint.
The post was also pelted with stones, while the incident had been reported by the army personnel to their unit.
The Spokesman stated that the group had also hurled stones and bottles at the army struck carrying soldiers which had arrived at the scene.
The army personnel had fired several shots into the air to control the situation and later the police arrived and took steps to control the situation.
Two persons were arrested for unruly behaviour while three soldiers and two civilians were injured in the incident, police said.
