Plans are afoot to renovate 1,500 kilometres of roads, of which construction work had been inaugurated under the 100,000-kilometre roads programme and later suspended, the Department of Government Information (DGI) says.

The total cost estimated for the renovation sits at Rs. 20 billion and is scheduled to be completed within 06 months in the year 2024.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the renovation of optional roads, byways and rural roads of 100,000 kilometres within 06 months.

The proposal had been furnished by the Minister of Transport and Highways to implement the programme for renovating the selected highways and byways so that they would be up for transportation within the first half of the year.
