An increase in rainfall over the southwestern parts of the island is expected from tomorrow (03) and during the coming days, the Department of Meteorology has stated.
According to the Met. Department, showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
It further stated that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Meanwhile, strong winds of around 40–50 kmph may be experienced at times across the island.
The general public has been advised to take precautions to minimize potential damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
