The Sri Lanka Railway Guards’ Union has decided to cancel the railway strike that was scheduled to take place, providing relief to thousands of commuters.
The decision was reached following discussions between representatives of the association and the Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister. During the meeting, both parties reportedly agreed that an investigation into the incident at the center of the dispute would be conducted within the next 48 hours, with a decision to be issued thereafter.
As a result, passenger train services are expected to operate as normal today, ensuring that the traveling public can continue their journeys without disruption, according to the Railway Guards’ Union.
However, the association stated that it has decided to withdraw only from freight train operations, meaning cargo transportation services may be affected despite the continuation of passenger services.
