
Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunneththi has urged Sri Lankan entrepreneurs living in Australia to play a leading role in developing the country’s industrial and technological sectors.
Minister Handunneththi made the appeal while delivering the keynote address at ‘Sri Lankan Entrepreneurs Night 2026’, organized by the Australia–Sri Lanka Business Forum (ASLBF) in Melbourne.
Handunneththi said Sri Lankan entrepreneurs and investors living overseas have an important role to play in helping the country overcome its economic challenges and build a stronger production-based economy.
He invited Sri Lankan entrepreneurs in Australia to actively contribute to the development of the country by bringing investment, expertise and international experience into Sri Lanka.
The Minister said a new economic environment has been established in Sri Lanka, which he described as investment-friendly, transparent and free from corruption, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to engage in the country’s economic development.
He also emphasized the importance of strengthening Sri Lanka’s industrial and technological capabilities to support sustainable economic growth.
The event was attended by Sri Lankan Consul General in Melbourne Pradeepa Saram, Australian Federal Parliamentarian Cassandra Fernando, several officials, diplomats and business leaders.
