Man arrested for illegal excavation in search of archaeological artifacts

A suspect who was allegedly excavating land in search of archaeological artifacts has been arrested by police.

 

The arrest was made during a raid conducted by the Dambagalla Police in the Kottagala area within the Dambagalla Police Division yesterday (20).

 

Police also had seized a number of excavation equipment believed to have been used by the suspect in the search for archaeological artefacts.

 

The suspect, a 51-year-old resident of Namaloya, was taken into custody, police said. 

 

Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Dambagalla Police.
