Manori Sallay, the wife of former head of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, has lodged a complaint with the National Authority for the Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses.
The complaint alleges that a civilian-clothed individual believed to be linked to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been repeatedly monitoring her and her two children.
According to the complaint, the individual followed her 17-year-old daughter and 22-year-old son when they visited the Colombo National Hospital yesterday (20) to inquire about their father's condition. It is alleged that the man photographed or filmed the children using his mobile phone during the incident.
Manori Sallay has claimed that the same individual had previously been seen in the vicinity of the National Hospital as well as near the premises of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Accordingly, she has urged the National Authority for the Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses to launch an independent investigation into the matter, identify the individual involved and determine under whose instructions the alleged surveillance activities were carried out.
The former head of the State Intelligence Service, Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay was arrested by the CID on February 25 over allegations linked to the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings and remains in CID detention under a court order.
Suresh Sallay is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital after commencing a hunger strike while in CID custody.
