Five individuals were injured and admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital following a road accident in Thillaiyadi, Puttalam today (24).

The accident occurred when a van travelling from Anuradhapura to Negombo after a pilgrimage veered off the road, collided with a three-wheeler and subsequently crashed into a building.

The van, which was carrying six passengers, was being driven by a woman at the time of the incident.

According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle after a car suddenly crossed the road in the Thillaiyadi area. In an attempt to avoid the vehicle, the van veered off the roadway.

The van then struck a three-wheeler coming from the Palaviya direction before crashing into a building on the opposite side of the road and coming to a halt.

Two passengers from the van and three occupants of the three-wheeler sustained injuries and were hospitalised for treatment.

At the time of the impact, a group of women was inside the building that was struck but none of them were injured in the incident.

Puttalam Police are conducting further investigations.
