At least three people have been killed in building collapses in one part of the capital Caracas, according to a municipal mayor.
“Regrettably, we report the death of 3 citizens following the collapse of two structures in Las Minas,” Baruta mayor Darwin González said on X. “At this time, these are the only incidents reported in the municipality.”
González said police and civil protection teams have been deployed in the area to help residents, and that all non-essential work and school activities have been suspended until next week.
A massive search and rescue effort is underway in various parts of Caracas, where a number of buildings have collapsed.
González posted videos showing response teams pulling a survivor out of the rubble at one site.
