
The Colombo High Court today (25) directed that summons be issued to two Indian witnesses in the case filed against Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa over the ‘Krrish’ project deal, following the procedure set out under the Judicial Service Commission circular for issuing summons to foreign witnesses.
The order was issued after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that the two witnesses in question could not be contacted, Ada Derana reporter said.
Colombo High Court Judge Nadee Aparna Suwandurugoda instructed that steps be taken to serve summons in accordance with the established legal procedure for foreign witnesses.
The Colombo High Court in May ordered that the case filed by the Attorney General against MP Namal Rajapaksa regarding the controversial “Krrish” project deal be taken up for hearing on July 07.
The pre-trial conference related to the case was concluded last month.
The case has been filed by the Attorney General alleging that MP Namal Rajapaksa committed an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by receiving Rs. 70 million from the Indian company ‘Krrish’, under the pretext of promoting rugby in Sri Lanka.
