The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the acquittal and release of defendants Caroline Jurie and Chula Padmendra, who were charged with forcibly removing the crown from and assaulting Pushpika De Silva, who was crowned Mrs. Sri Lanka at the 2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo.
The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama following a lengthy trial, said Ada Derana reporter.
Delivering the verdict, the Chief Magistrate stated that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt.
The court was also informed that defendant Chula Padmendra had passed away.
