The Officer-in-Charge of the Traffic Division at the Yatiyanthota Police Station has been remanded following his arrest in connection with the alleged misplacement of a service-issued firearm.
The officer was taken into custody yesterday (27) by officers of the Seethawakapura Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau over the disappearance of a pistol assigned to him for official duties.
According to police, the officer had left for duty on June 26 carrying a pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition. However, the ammunition was not returned as required, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He was produced before the Ruwanwella Magistrate’s Court earlier today. After reviewing the submissions, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded until June 30.
Further investigations into the matter are being carried out by the Seethawakapura Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau.
