UPDATE: Eight persons injured in the renewed unrest at Negombo Prison were admitted to the Negombo District General Hospital.
A tense situation has once again been reported at the Negombo Prison, said Ada Derana reporter.
Additional police teams have been deployed to the prison to bring the situation under control.
Although the situation at the prison had been brought under control by this morning following yesterday’s incidents, unrest has reportedly resurfaced at the prison at present.
A clash broke out between two groups of inmates at Negombo Prison yesterday around 1.00 p.m.
Police stated that the confrontation occurred between a group of remand prisoners and a group of convicted inmates serving sentences.
Two inmates died in the clash, while 38 others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at hospital.
