
A passenger aircraft bound for Istanbul, Türkiye, which departed from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), has safely landed back in Katunayake after being struck by a bird during the flight.
The aircraft, operating as flight TK-731 with 246 passengers on board, encountered the incident shortly after departing from the BIA in Katunayake at 7:07 a.m. today (11).
Following the incident, the aircraft was observed flying at a lower altitude over the airspace near the Negombo Lagoon while carrying out fuel-dumping and fuel-burning procedures as a precautionary measure before making a safe landing.
The Airbus A330 wide-body passenger aircraft safely landed at 10:24 a.m. today.
Airport authorities had been placed on standby to respond promptly in the event of any emergency, said Ada Derana reporter.
