The no-confidence motion submitted against the Minister of Justice, Harshana Nanayakkara will be debated on Friday (24).

The decision was taken by the Committee on Parliamentary Business which met at the Parliament Complex today (22).

A group of opposition Members of Parliament yesterday (21) handed over a no-confidence motion against Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara to the Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Gayantha Karunathilleka stated that the opposition is seeking to debate the motion at the earlier possible date.

Meanwhile, MP Ajith P. Perera alleged that the Justice Minister has neglected all his responsibilities.

The opposition decided to submit the no-confidence motion against the Justice Minister due to his alleged failure to fulfill his responsibility and accountability regarding the safety of the prison officers and inmates who were killed due to the unrest that occurred in the Negombo prison recently.

Accordingly, the opposition MPs, including the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, signed the no-confidence motion against the Justice Minister in Parliament on July 10.
