Police have uncovered further details regarding the shooting incident that took place last night (23) in the Palliyawatta area of Kadirana, Wattala.
According to police, the shooting targeted an individual who was attending a function at a reception hall.
Investigations have revealed that the attack was allegedly aimed at a suspected drug trafficker and murder accused known as "Mattakkuliye Kudu Roshan."
The incident occurred at around 9:40 p.m. during a birthday celebration held for Roshan's brother's child. Police said an individual wearing a helmet arrived at the venue in a car, entered the reception hall, and opened fire at the intended target.
However, the gunfire reportedly missed the target and struck another person who was standing nearby.
The victim, who sustained serious gunshot injuries, was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Police stated that the shooting was carried out using a pistol-type firearm.
The deceased has been identified as a 39-year-old resident of Borella.
Wattala Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
