The official opening ceremony of the Derana-Signal Colombo International Kite Festival has commenced today at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, ahead of the main event scheduled to be held on Sunday (August 09) at the Galle Face Green, Colombo.

The sixth edition of Sri Lanka’s only internationally-recognised kite festival, organised by TV Derana, will feature 80 professional kite flyers from 30 countries, bringing a vibrant display of kites to the Colombo skies.

As part of promotional activities ahead of the event, two members of Germany’s No Limit Kite Team as well as teams from other nations arrived in Sri Lanka recently.

Meanwhile, around 1,500 local kite enthusiasts have been given the opportunity to join the international competitors, with participants able to compete in eight categories, including the under-15 category, creative kite designs, Derana and Signal branded kite categories, most colourful kite, best decorated kite, artistic peacock kite, and Signal night kite category.

The Derana–Signal Colombo International Kite Festival will take place at Galle Face Green on August 9, featuring kite displays and competitions with both local and international participation.
