Sri Lanka has recorded a total of 92,011 dengue cases so far this year, while the number of dengue-related deaths has risen to 68, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
A total of 96 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas across the island have currently been identified as high-risk areas for dengue.
The Western Province accounts for 52.96% of all reported cases, with 48,725 patients, making it the province with the highest dengue burden.
The Southern Province has recorded the second-highest number of cases at 13,533, followed by the Central Province with 8,274 cases and Sabaragamuwa Province with 7,558 cases.
At district level, Gampaha has reported the highest number of dengue cases at 19,631. Colombo has recorded 18,245 cases, followed by Kandy with 6,613, Matara with 6,036, Kalutara with 5,951, Galle with 5,039 and Ratnapura with 4,935 cases.
Meanwhile, 3,700 dengue cases have been reported from the Colombo Municipal Council area alone.
July recorded the highest number of monthly dengue cases so far this year, with 29,968 cases. A further 21,533 cases were reported in June, while 8,590 cases were recorded in May.
In addition, 6,671 dengue cases have been reported during the first 15 days of August alone.
Health authorities have urged the public to keep their surroundings clean by destroying mosquito breeding sites and to seek treatment from a qualified medical practitioner without delay if they develop symptoms of fever.
