The Sri Lanka Navy has appointed a special board of inquiry to conduct a preliminary investigation into the accident involving a Navy fast attack craft off the coast of Angulana.
The accident occurred yesterday (15), with 11 Navy personnel rescued from the vessel. They are currently receiving medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition, according to the Navy.
Search operations are continuing for a Navy officer who remains missing following the incident.
Meanwhile, a salvage operation to recover the damaged naval craft commenced today (16), with Navy divers deployed to the area.
The Navy said rough sea conditions have posed a significant challenge to both the search and salvage operations.
The specially appointed board will investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident as the search for the missing officer continues.
