Preliminary investigations into the shooting incident that occurred in the Habarakada-Mullegama area of Athurugiriya have revealed that it may have been caused by a conflict between two groups involved in drug trafficking.
Police said that two individuals had arrived at the scene on a motorcycle to carry out the shooting.
Residents in the area told Ada Derana that they heard around three gunshots, following which the shooters fled the scene immediately.
The Athurugiriya Police are continuing investigations into the shooting and are conducting further inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A hotel owner was injured in a shooting incident in Habarakada, within the Athurugiriya Police Division, yesterday (17), police said.
Subsequently, the injured individual was admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital for treatment.
The victim, according to initial reports, is a relative of “Dubai Kasun,” who is alleged to be a member of an organized criminal gang.
