
Former Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and an employee of his fuel station, who were remanded over allegations of corruption, have been ordered to be released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama, today (18), after considering submissions made by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and lawyers representing the suspects.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the release of each suspect on two personal sureties of Rs. 5 million each. The court also imposed a travel ban on both suspects, Ada Derana reporter said.
