A total of 28 vehicles operating in the Talawakelle area have been temporarily suspended from service after being found to be unroadworthy during an inspection, Nuwara Eliya District Chief Motor Vehicle Inspector Jaliya Bandara stated.

The inspection was jointly conducted by officers of the Traffic Branch of the Nuwara Eliya Police Division and Motor Vehicle Inspectors, covering 40 vehicles travelling through the Talawakelle area. The vehicles inspected included buses, cars, motorcycles, vans and lorries.

According to the Chief Motor Vehicle Inspector, 28 vehicles were found to have various defects that rendered them unfit for road use. Their revenue licences were subsequently taken into custody, and the vehicles were temporarily removed from service.

The operation was carried out as part of efforts to reduce road accidents and improve road safety in the area. The vehicles suspended included four private buses and 15 three-wheelers.

The affected vehicles will remain suspended from service until the identified defects are rectified and the vehicles are presented for re-inspection. Service will only resume once the vehicles are confirmed to be roadworthy, the Motor Vehicle Inspector noted.
