An individual who allegedly disseminated unverified and false information through social media regarding an alleged LTTE training camp in the Palai Forest Reserve within the Akkarayan Kulam Police Division, has been remanded until September 02.
The 46-year-old suspect, a resident of Bellanwila in Boralesgamuwa, was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (19).
The suspect was arrested yesterday (18) by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) over the alleged dissemination of the false information through a video clip posted on social media.
Police said the suspect had conducted a media briefing through the video clip and claimed that an LTTE training camp was being operated in the Palai Forest Reserve.
However, the police said the information circulated by the suspect had not been verified or substantiated.
Legal action will be taken against the suspect under the provisions of the Penal Code and the Police Ordinance, the police said.
