The final rites of veteran Sri Lankan singer Dr. Nanda Malini are scheduled to be held at the General Cemetery in Borella today (22).

Her remains have been placed at the Nanda Malini Sangeetha Ashramaya (Music Academy), located at No. 30, Vijayaba Mawatha, Nawala Road, Nugegoda, for the public to pay their last respects.

Professor Sunil Ariyaratne said the funeral arrangements have been scheduled as follows.

“The funeral rites (Pansukula rites) will be held at 10.00 a.m. During that period, the public will not be able to pay their last respects for approximately one hour. The opportunity to pay respects will then resume and continue until 3.30 p.m.,” he said.

He added that the funeral procession carrying the remains will leave the Nanda Malini Sangeetha Ashramaya at 3.30 p.m. and proceed via Parliament Road in Rajagiriya to the Borella General Cemetery.

“The cremation will take place at 5.00 p.m. There will be no ceremony at the venue,” Professor Ariyaratne added.

Legendary Sri Lankan singer Nanda Malini passed away on August 20 at the age of 82 at her home in Nawala.
