Update - Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Kathmandu has confirmed that an estimated 85 to 100 Sri Lankan nationals are currently in Nepal, including around 20 students who have recently arrived in the country.

There are also Sri Lankan nationals working with international organizations in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Tourism Board has identified 384 travellers, including 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepalese nationals, as being reported missing from areas affected by the Bhote Koshi River flash flood.

Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says no reports of casualties or injuries involving Sri Lankan nationals have been received so far following the devastating flash floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa District.

The massive flash flood in the Bhote Koshi River has caused widespread destruction after an upstream avalanche and glacier outburst in Tibet triggered flood waves estimated at 8 to 10 meters in height.

At least 17 people have been reported dead, while dozens remain missing as rescue and recovery operations continue in the affected areas.

A joint operation involving the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force is underway, with several security personnel among those reported missing after border security posts in Timure and Rasuwagadhi were destroyed.

Accordingly, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Nepal is expected to provide further information and updates regarding the safety of Sri Lankan nationals as more details emerge, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Thushara Rodrigo said.
