A 59-year-old woman was murdered after her husband allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon inside a forest reserve in the Korakahawewa area of Anuradhapura this morning (28).
According to the police, the man had travelled to the location with his wife on a motorcycle, where he allegedly attacked her before injuring himself while attempting to take his own life using the same sharp weapon.
The woman, a mother of three from the Ulukkulam area, died at the scene following the attack, police said.
The husband, who suffered serious injuries, has been admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
Police suspect that the incident may have been triggered by a personal dispute.
Anuradhapura Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
