Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa claims that the Government formulates its policies based on erroneous data.
The Leader of the Opposition made these remarks while addressing a farmers’ meeting held today (29) in Tissamaharama, Hambantota.
Speaking at the event, he pointed out that the minimum income and wage required for the people of the country to survive remains at a very low level.
He stated that, according to reports issued by the Department of Census and Statistics, an amount of Rs. 17,315 is considered sufficient for one person to survive for 30 days. However, he questioned whether a person could actually live on this amount for 30 days.
Consequently, the Opposition Leader accused the Government of formulating its policies based on such inaccurate data.
Furthermore, the Leader of the Opposition stated that the Government has failed to understand the hardships faced by the people, adding that between 30% and 40% of the country’s population is living in poverty.
He emphasized that there is no clear plan to uplift this impoverished community, noting that the Government has currently taken measures to curtail the 'Aswesuma' welfare programme.
