Showers will occur at times in Sabaragamuwa province and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya Districts, today (30), the Department of Meteorology said.

Several spells of showers may occur in Western and North-western provinces, it stated.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts after 2.00 p.m.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island, the Met. Department added.

Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the Central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Monaragala, Hambantota and Matale districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28 August to 07 September due to its apparent southward relative motion, it added.

The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today are Mannar, Periyamadu, Puliyankulam, Welioya and Pulmoddai about 12.11 noon.
