A 35-year-old man has been arrested with a firearm and 5 grams and 370 milligrams of ‘Ice’ (crystal methamphetamine) in the Gangeyaya area of Thanamalwila.
Police said officers from the Thanamalwila Police Station conducted a raid in the area yesterday (29), during which the suspect was arrested with the firearm, which has no identifiable country of manufacture, and the drugs.
The suspect is a resident of the same area, according to police.
Police said it has not yet been established why the suspect was in possession of the firearm. He is also reportedly a suspect currently out on bail in connection with a previous murder and drug-related charges.
The suspect is due to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Thanamalwila Police.
