
Several spells of showers will occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, today (01), the Department of Meteorology stated.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts after 2.00 p.m.
Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island, it said.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the Central hills, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
The sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28 August to 07 September due to its apparent southward relative motion, it added.
The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today are Kalpitiya, Talawa, Sinharagama, Galkadawala, Nachchaduwa, Padikaramaduwa, Gomarankalla and Verugal about 12.10 noon.
