
Urgent steps must be taken to address the heavy burden faced by the general public due to the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax, according to the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
Speaking at an event held in Colombo, he said the prevailing situation must be rectified without delay.
Dr. Kumanayake also stressed that Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department should be developed to a level comparable with those in other developed countries.
He made these remarks while attending the 21st Annual General Conference of the Association of Inland Revenue Commissioners, held in Colombo.
The conference was attended by Deputy Minister of Economic Development Nishantha Jayaweera, Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and Inland Revenue Commissioner General R.P.H. Fernando.
