Several expressway projects are expected to commence this year, Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake said.

 

The Minister made this statement while speaking in Parliament today (08).

 

Accordingly, construction of the Kurunegala–Galgamuwa section of the Kurunegala–Dambulla Expressway is scheduled to commence during November or December this year.

 

He also stated that work on the Kahathuduwa– Ingiriya Expressway is expected to commence by the end of this year.

 

Meanwhile, the President has instructed officials to prepare plans for the proposed expressway from Katunayake to Chilaw.

 

A proposal has also been made to conduct a study on an expressway network centered on Anuradhapura, Minister said.

 

Minister Rathnayake further stated that construction work on the Kadawatha–Mirigama Expressway is scheduled to be completed by May 2028.

 

He added that the Pothuhera–Rambukkana section is planned to be completed by April next year.
