
The Sri Lanka Navy said that it has apprehended a suspect and seized approximately 820 kilograms of fish caught using explosives, during a search operation in Mutur.
Acting on credible information received, naval personnel of SLNS Parakumba, together with personnel from SLNS Gokanna, in the Eastern Naval Command, intercepted and searched a suspicious lorry in the area.
The search led to the recovery of approximately 820 kilograms of fish suspected to have been caught using illegal blast fishing methods, the Sri Lanka Navy said.
The suspect in connection to the incident was identified as a 40-year-old resident of Poduwaikattu Senduur area, the statement said.
The suspect, lorry and consignment of fish were handed over to the Mutur Police Station, in coordination with the Mutur Fisheries Inspector, for further legal action.
