Steps have been taken to resume construction work on the Maussagolla Disaster Housing Project in the Dambethenna Grama Niladhari Division, which was initiated in 2019 but subsequently stalled.
A site inspection related to the project was conducted yesterday (12) under the leadership of Badulla District Secretary Sunil Galagama.
Residents of the Maussagolla Estate section in the Dambethenna Grama Niladhari Division, which has been identified as a high-risk landslide zone, continue to live in areas vulnerable to landslides.
Although construction of houses for these residents commenced in 2019, the work has not yet been completed.
Under the first phase of the project, 65 houses have been proposed for construction. Foundations have been laid for 34 of these houses, while 24 houses have reached the stage where roofing work is required. Roofing has already been completed on the remaining seven houses.
District Secretary Sunil Galagama said that the expertise and labour contribution of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Services Corps are expected to be obtained to expedite the construction work.
He also instructed officials to take the necessary measures to develop infrastructure facilities, including water supply, electricity and roads, under the project.
