The owner of a company in Borella has been fined Rs. 300,000 for selling expired cosmetics, perfumes without marked prices and cosmetic products that did not carry the required information.
The fine was imposed by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court No. 5 in connection with a case filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority against the company on three charges.
The Consumer Affairs Authority conducted a raid at the premises, during which officials found that the company was selling perfumes without displaying the maximum retail price and had kept expired cosmetic products for sale.
Officials also found expired cosmetics being offered for sale without the information required under relevant regulations.
Following the inspection, the Consumer Affairs Authority initiated legal proceedings against the company.
The company management subsequently pleaded guilty to the charges before the court.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the company to pay a fine of Rs. 300,000 in connection with the offences.
