The Sri Lanka Navy has successfully recovered Fast Attack Craft P 4447, bringing to a close a multi-stage emergency response following the vessel's distress during a routine patrol off Angulana on August 15.

The craft was brought to the surface on September 11 from a depth of approximately 80 feet before being towed to the Colombo Dockyard premises, according to a statement issued by the Navy.

The operation began with an immediate search-and-rescue effort following the incident. Personnel from the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force, Police officers and local fishermen from Angulana worked together in the search for the crew, the Navy said in a statement.

The coordinated operation resulted in the rescue of 11 crew members. The search-and-rescue phase concluded on September 4 with the recovery of the remains of the craft's Second in Command.

With the rescue operation completed, the Navy shifted its focus to the recovery of the vessel. Specialized Navy diving and salvage teams were deployed to carry out the operation amid rough sea conditions and challenging underwater conditions.

The salvage operation required the vessel to be raised in stages. Navy teams from the marine, hull, electrical and electronic engineering branches contributed their technical expertise and specialized equipment to the complex recovery effort, the Navy noted.

The Navy said the successful recovery demonstrated the professionalism and technical capabilities of its divers, while also highlighting the coordinated contribution of its engineering and technical branches.

The completion of the salvage operation marks the final stage of the Navy's response to the incident, following weeks of search, rescue and recovery efforts, according to the Navy.
