Police have arrested the suspect who allegedly threw the hand grenade at a house on Sirisangabo Mawatha in Kawdana, Dehiwala, killing two children and seriously injuring their father, sources told Ada Derana.
According to sources, the individual who allegedly transported the suspect to the location of the attack has also been arrested.
Two children were killed and their father sustained severe injuries to his legs in a hand grenade attack carried out in the early hours of September 11 at a residence along the Sirisangabo Mawatha in Dehiwala.
The father subsequently underwent an amputation, while the final rites of the two deceased children were held yesterday (14).
Investigations into the incident were launched under the direct supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) in charge of the Western Province Sajeewa Medawatte, on the instructions of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya.
As part of the investigation, the Mount Lavinia Division Crimes Investigation Bureau previously had arrested an individual suspected of handing over the three-wheeler used by the perpetrators to a garage for its colour to be changed, along with the owner of the garage.
During questioning, it was revealed that the suspects had acted on the instructions of individuals known as “Kos Malli” and “Bodhiyawatte Avishka,” who are alleged to have masterminded the attack.
