The Polgolla Dame in Kandy will be emptied for around two and a half days from September 25 to facilitate essential repair work on its gates, Director of the Water Management Secretariat Engineer Nilantha Dhanapala said.
Speaking at a special media briefing today (16) on the potential impact of El Niño on Sri Lanka, Dhanapala said the dam is scheduled to be emptied from midnight on September 25 until 6 p.m. on September 27.
He said the reservoir will be emptied to allow repairs to be carried out on its gates.
Director Nilantha Dhanapala urged residents who receive their water supply from Polgolla and Balagolla to use water supplied through the National Water Supply system as sparingly as possible during this period.
