
The driver arrested over the fatal multi-vehicle crash in Mattakkuliya, that claimed the lives of three individuals, has been remanded until September 30.
The order was issued after the suspect was produced before Colombo Hulftsdorp (Aluthkade) Magistrate’s Court today (17).
Earlier today, police revealed the driver was found to have been under the influence of cannabis at the time of the crash.
Three individuals were killed while ten others were seriously injured following the accident in the Mattakkuliya area last night (16).
The accident occurred when the speeding car collided with several other vehicles travelling along the road.
During the incident, the car had reportedly collided with three three-wheelers and four motorcycles.
The injured individuals were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, where three of them subsequently succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the car was arrested by police and produced before court, following which he was remanded until September 30.
Mattakkuliya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
