The Irrigation Department has warned of a possible minor flooding situation in low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River.
Following intense rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the Mahaweli River over the past several hours, a significant risk of flooding has been identified in the low-lying regions surrounding the river within the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat.
Residents inhabiting these vulnerable areas, as well as motorists traversing local roadways, are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution.
Communities situated in close proximity to the Mahaweli River are urged to remain on high alert, closely monitor water levels, and take immediate, proactive precautions to safeguard lives and property against potential flood conditions, the Department said.
Furthermore, all relevant disaster management authorities and emergency response units have been notified and requested to take swift, necessary actions to manage the situation, coordinate relief efforts, and ensure public safety
