The Irrigation Department has warned of possible minor flood situation in low-lying areas of the Gin River Valley due to recent heavy rainfall.
Significant heavy rainfall has been received in the upper catchment areas of the Gin River Basin.
Based on the prevailing rainfall conditions and an analysis of the water levels recorded at the river gauging stations maintained by the Irrigation Department within the Gin River Basin, a minor flood situation may occur in the low-lying areas of the Gin River Valley within the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Thawalama, Nagoda, Baddegama and Welivitiya-Divithura during the next 24 hours, the Department said.
Residents living in the areas under flood warning, as well as motorists travelling through the areas, are urged to exercise extreme caution and remain highly vigilant regarding the prevailing situation.
The relevant disaster management authorities are requested to take all necessary measures in response to this situation.
