Four suspects, including the alleged gunman involved in two separate murders in the Athurugiriya Police Division, have been arrested, police said.
Police had launched investigations into the two murders reported in the Athurugiriya Police Division on August 17 and September 8, 2026.
Accordingly, the suspects, including the alleged gunman and two others who allegedly aided and abetted the crime, were arrested during the investigations.
The suspects, aged 21, 24, 41 and 45, are residents of Padukka, Bandaragama, Moronthuduwa and Alubomulla, police said.
A live hand grenade was also recovered from the possession of the suspect identified as the alleged gunman.
Police further said that the suspect had an outstanding warrant in connection with a case being heard before the Horana Magistrate’s Court.
Athurugiriya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
