Sri Lanka’s inflation surges to 8.1% in August
Sri Lanka’s overall inflation rate, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, increased to 8.1% in August 2026, up from 7.2% recorded in July 2026, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.
The Department stated that the year-on-year inflation rate for the food category rose to 6.6% in August 2026 from 4.9% in July 2026. Meanwhile, non-food inflation increased to 9.3% in August 2026, compared to 9.2% recorded in the previous month.
