The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Negombo via Kankasanthurai and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Negombo via Kankasanthurai and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantotawill be rough or very rough at times with strong gusty winds up to 55-65 kmph.
Meanwhile, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Negombo to Galle via Beruwala will be rough at times with strong gusty winds up to 50-55 kmph, the Department said.
The wave height may increase to about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
Accordingly, the naval and fishing communities who are engaged in fishing and naval activities in the above sea areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
