Two Chinese nationals arrested with stock of foreign cigarettes at BIA
Two Chinese nationals have been arrested in possession of a consignment of foreign cigarettes smuggled into Sri Lanka.
The suspects were arrested during a raid conducted by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at the arrivals terminal, earlier today (27), based on information received by the officers.
The officials had seized 70 cartons containing 14,000 sticks of cigarettes and another 90 cartons containing 18,000 sticks of cigarettes from the possession of the two suspects.
Police said the arrested suspects are Chinese nationals aged 36 and 56.
Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau Unit at Katunayake Airport.
