The Irrigation Department says water levels in several major reservoirs across the island are gradually returning to normal levels.
The Director of the Water Resources and Disaster Management Engineering Division of the Irrigation Department, L.S. Sooriyabandara, said that although water levels in several rivers remain at minor flood levels, they are gradually receding.
Accordingly, the water level of the Nilwala River at Thalgahagoda remains at a minor flood level but is gradually declining. Meanwhile, water levels in the Gin River have returned to normal, while the water level in the Baddegama area remains at a minor flood level but is also gradually receding.
He further noted that although water levels at Millakanda and Kuda Ganga remain at minor flood levels, they are gradually returning to normal. Water levels in the other reservoirs under the control of the Irrigation Department remain at normal levels, he said.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department expects that the water levels of the rivers currently experiencing elevated levels will not rise to flood levels, as the Meteorological Department's forecast for today (28) does not indicate significant rainfall.
