A former Commissioner (Investigations) of the Department of Land Title Settlement has been arrested today (29) by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over an alleged offence of corruption that is said to have caused a financial loss of more than Rs. 1.58 billion to the government.
According to CIABOC, the suspect allegedly abused his official powers while serving as Commissioner (Investigations) and issued a report using official departmental letterheads under an unauthorized investigation number.
The report allegedly represented a 1.0982-hectare state-owned property in Borella, with an estimated market value of Rs. 1.586 billion, as land belonging to a private party.
The suspect is accused of causing a substantial loss to the state and providing an undue benefit to another party through the alleged misuse of his official authority.
The arrested suspect is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
