
A programme has been organized to open 5,000 houses across the country tomorrow (05), in view of the World Habitat Day, Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Susil Ranasinghe stated.
The Housing Minister said at least one house will be opened in every Grama Niladhari division under the programme.
The houses have been constructed with Rs. 1 million in government assistance, supplemented by community labour.
Accordingly, 618 houses have been constructed in the Kurunegala District, 200 in the Kandy District, 694 in the Jaffna District, 341 in the Gampaha District, 402 in the Ampara District and 348 in the Anuradhapura District.
Minister Ranasinghe said houses constructed with Rs. 2 million in government assistance under resettlement projects in the Northern and Eastern Provinces will also be opened tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Minister further said that several water supply projects are also scheduled to be launched tomorrow in conjunction with World Habitat Day.
