Angunukolapelessa firearm incident: suspects get bail

The Angunakolapelessa Magistrate on Monday (1) granted bail to two cops and an Army Corporal who were arrested for allegedly bringing a firearm to a meeting attended by President Maithripala Sirisena on April 25.
An ASP, a police Sergeant and the Corporal were arrested and remanded on May 19 in connection with the incident.
Earlier, Colonel Mahendra Fernando, who was the head of the commando unit of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was also summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department, over the incident.
The Army Corporal had attended the meeting, which was held in Angunukolapelessa, Hambantota, with MP Namal Rajapaksa, it was reported.
