The second annual TikTok awards were a resounding success, showcasing a diverse range of creators who have captivated audiences across the platform.

Held at Magazine London and hosted by TV presenter Aj Odudu, the event celebrated talent across 12 categories, from fashion to food and education.

Max Klymenko, a transport enthusiast originally from Ukraine, took home the prestigious creator of the year award for his unique career ladder series.

This innovative concept involves Klymenko setting up a stepladder in public spaces and inviting passers-by to join him while he tries to guess their professions through a series of yes or no questions. With a following of 8.5 million on TikTok, Max explained that he began creating content out of necessity, driven by the challenges he faced in finding a job after moving to the UK 14 years ago.

In a heartfelt moment, he dedicated his award to his grandmother in Ukraine, highlighting her determination to support his journey despite her current lack of electricity.

The nominees collectively amassed over 83 million followers, with the winners determined by a vote from five million TikTok users. Among the highlights of the evening was the video of the year award, which went to Bemi Orojuogun—better known as “bus aunty.” Bemi’s charm and her viral videos showcasing her near-misses with passing double-decker buses have made her a beloved figure, garnering almost 50 million views on her award-winning clip.

Collaborating with brands like Burberry and Ikea, Bemi reflected on her whirlwind journey to fame, expressing gratitude to figures such as Stormzy for reposting her content.

In the fashion and beauty realm, Nikki Lilly emerged as the winner, stressing the importance of authenticity in her content that challenges traditional perceptions of beauty. At just 21, Nikki has used her platform to bring awareness to her own health struggles and celebrate inclusivity, stating, “As someone with a facial condition, I’ve never felt fully embraced in this space.”

Her triumph resonated with fellow winner Tola, who, alongside her son Kevin, received the voice for change award for their candid content on raising a child with autism. Tola shared her journey of feeling isolated after Kevin’s diagnosis, highlighting the importance of the supportive community they have built.

Another standout of the evening was Charley Marlowe, a well-known Radio 1 presenter, who won the entertainment creator of the year award. Charley, known for her infectious personality and trademark laugh, dedicated her win to the northern working-class community, emphasizing the significance of representation within the industry.

The comprehensive list of winners reflects the remarkable talent present in the TikTok community, each creator bringing their unique perspective to a global audience.

As the event wrapped up, attendees celebrated not only their personal achievements but the vibrant and supportive community that TikTok fosters.
